    CARNIVAL ETIQUETTE

These two words of today’s topic together seem an oxymoron. We associate carnival with wild abandon. It is a time of unmasking, where we put aside our social graces and publicly display our inverse selves. On the other hand, there is etiquette. According to website MSG, we etiquette is important because:

    • It makes you a cultured individual who leaves his mark wherever he goes.
    • It teaches you the way to talk, walk and most importantly behave in the society.
    • It is essential for an everlasting first impression. The way you interact with your superiors, parents, fellow workers, friends speak a lot about your personality and up- bringing.
    • It enables the individuals to earn respect and appreciation in the society. No one would feel like talking to a person who does not know how to speak or behave in the society. Etiquette inculcates a feeling of trust and loyalty in the individuals. One becomes more responsible and mature. Etiquette helps individuals to value relationships.

These two words seem incompatible. There is, however, expected behaviour even during this festival of revelry. The premise is that once we abide by etiquette, our interactions will be better. Here are a few suggestions for carnival.

    RESPECT TIME

Nothing annoys anxious fete goers more than having to wait for a friend to get dressed before heading to the party. Start the lime in a good spirit by being ready to go as the crew arrives.

    DRESS

Yes, carnival time is a time that many of us tend to show our sexy side a bit more. We must, however, know where looking sexy stops and profanity begins. Remember, the carnival season is for a few weeks. You have eleven months outside of carnival to live with yourself and the comments of others, especially in this age of social media where our every move could be on public display.

    CONSUMPTION

Just because you can eat and drink as much as you can at the all inclusive fete does not mean that you should. Know your limit and avoid the unsightly result caused from overindulgence of both food and drink.

    TEMPERENCE

In a tightly packed party arena, expect your new shoe to walked on, or someone to accidentally bump into you or sully your clothing with their drink or food. This may annoy you, but have restraint. Erupting is a foolish notion as such occurrence are very possible where the crowd is so closely packed. If you are the person causing the situation, apologise immediately, looking the person directly in the eye, and meaning it.

    BEHAVIOUR

Yes, you go out to have a good time. That does not mean that you should at the expense of others around you. Curb your enjoyment so that everyone will have fond memories of the lime.
So go out there this carnival and fete responsibly.
